Wild Horses Couldn’t Stop Me…

Wild horses couldn’t stop me from writing about this next hanker. I’ve written before about the horse wallpaper I’ve hankered after for years. But Bill Skinner’s wild horses jewellery range has surpassed even that hanker. Here is the bracelet in rose gold.Bill Skinner GAlloping Horses

Isn’t it magnificent? The ruthenium version is in the sale at £57 instead of £95. It also comes in gold and all three do up with a magnetic clasp.

Bill Skinner Galloping horses RutheniumBill used to do a necklace of the same design but sadly they are no longer on his website. If it’s a necklace you’re looking for, the bee and honeycomb range is amazing too.

Juicy Strawberries

Where I am sat it’s pretty miserable outside today and I’m hankering after some strawberries. Not the out of season sort currently in the supermarket that don’t really taste of anything, but ripe, red, juicy strawberries that evoke memories of summer and tennis and dribble juice down your chin.

This beautiful necklace by Rebecca Wilson looks just the sort that I fancy, alas I’d probably chip my teeth on the porcelain, so I’d have to make do with wearing it round my neck instead.

Rebecca Wilson - Juicy Strawberry Necklace

And what is better than one juicy strawberry? Why, two juicy strawberries of course!

Rebecca Wilson - Two Juicy Strawberries NecklaceOne is £40 and two is £55 and both include a gold-plated necklace and a swarovski heart.

If anyone would like to get me an early Christmas present, one of these would be just lovely…

Masquerade

Do you remember the book Masquerade by Kit Williams?

Masquerade - Kit Williams

Published in 1979 it gave clues to a buried treasure, a jewel encrusted hare in a ceramic pot apparently worth around £5000. If you’re interested to know how to solve the puzzle, Kit Williams published a follow-up book with the solution.

Many a morning I spent eating my Shreddies flicking through the pages of this wonderful book in the mid 1980s. Although the treasure had been found by then I marvelled at the illustrations and loved how the text framed the pictures, this book is probably responsible for my appreciation of typography.

The British Design 1948-2012: Innovation in the Modern Age exhibition at the V&A is displaying the golden hare jewel from Masquerade for the first time and available in the V&A Shop are these gorgeous hare stud earrings and ring.

Hare Stud Earrings - V&A ShopHare Ring - V&A ShopThey look less like the jewelled hare treasure and more like the beautiful illustrations of the hare. Which I think is the right way around. Both are available to pre-order at almost 1979 prices of £5 for the earrings and £6 for the ring.

The exhibition is running until 12th August 2012. Will you be making a trip to London to see the treasure?

A Ride With Valentine

It is only a few days now until I take part in the Cycletta ride in Bedfordshire and I’ve done a fair bit of cycling to prepare myself for the 60km route. My husband has been fantastic and has been out on every ride with me. We managed to clock up 34km on Sunday and he even picked me up and put my chain back on when I fell off. I’m still not a natural cyclist…

When I saw these A Ride With Valentine brooches they seemed to sum up my last few weeks cycling around with the man I love.

A Ride With Valentine Pin White - The Mesh

The white brooch is £16.52 and the red brooch is £12.39 and are unique pieces by The Mesh. I love the contrast of the little figurines with their lasercut surround.

Mr Wolf & the Triangles

I am partial to a bit of Art Deco and this Art Deco inspired necklace by Rebecca Boatfield is no exception.

Gold Mirrored Triangle Necklace - Rebecca Boatfield

The unusual shape of it, the gold mirrored perspex and the etched triangles all make it really special but it’s still affordable at £60. There is also a beautiful cherry wood version at £65.

Rebecca also does this Mr Wolf necklace at £48 and a mirrored brooch version of the same design.

Christening Gifts

At the weekend we went to a christening. It was a lovely day full of pregnant ladies, babies and dressed up adults. The sun came out just in time for everyone’s arrival at the church and we spent the party afterwards on the terrace sipping Prosecco with kids frolicking round the garden.

I ummed and ahhed for ages over what to get as a gift but finally decided on this French 1930s mother of pearl rosary.

French 1930s Rosary

The silver was a little tarnished when it arrived from France but with some silver dip and a little elbow grease it came up much shinier than in this photo. I thought as it was old and unusual they may not get anything similar as a gift. I hope it will rise in value as the little one gets older so when she’s older she can trade it in for something that she likes. If you like it, this rosary is quite similar in style but from the fifties.

After I bought it of course, I kept hankering after other christening gifts that could also have been perfect. This silver money bear was one of them, he’s £10 from Three Jelly Moulds and a Wardrobe. Isn’t he sweet?

I also really like this Noah’s Ark pendant, the top opens to reveal tiny pairs of silver animals inside. It’s £35 from Lullaby Blue. There is an owl and pussy cat version too.

Finally, this clever little bracelet spells out god-daughter in morse code. It’s £69 from Between You & I. Although if you’re not a godparent you can get it personalised to whatever message you like.

Marathon Medals

I’m sure we all know someone who is running a 5k, 10k, half-marathon or marathon this year, especially with the Virgin London Marathon almost a week away. I saw these necklaces by The Run Home and thought they were a fantastic way of congratulating a runner on their achievements.

Look at this gun-metal 26.2 necklace with cute running shoe charm.

Run 26.2 - The Run Home

For the person you know who loves to run, this sterling silver necklace might be perfect.

Love To Run - The Run Home

The nervous runner could be lifted by this Believe in the Marathon sterling silver necklace to wear for their race.

Believe In The Marathon - The Run Home

The New York City Marathon is on 4th November this year & this Big Apple necklace to celebrate it is fabulous. You can customise your necklace to celebrate your own race.

NYC Marathon - The Run Home

I’d need this No Excuses Runner Girl necklace to keep my training up I think, as I’m ever the procrastinator.

No Excuses Runner Girl - The Run Home

There are so many charms and pendants to choose from and you can mix, match and customise until you have one perfect for the runner, swimmer or triathlete in your life. Prices range from $3.50 for a pendant to $41 for a sterling silver necklace with four charms.

I’m not a natural runner, the most I can do comfortably is 10K and although I did once apply for the London Marathon I was secretly relieved when I didn’t get a place, but it would be amazing to run one day. If you need some running inspiration take a visit to Bangs & a Bun or Nicole is Better.

Alternative Easter Gifts

Easter isn’t something we really celebrate which is why I enjoyed my Easter so much at the home of those who do. The only part of Easter my family take part in is the chocolate side of things and a couple of extra days off, which isn’t proper Easter. And this year we’re not even doing that as my mum and my daughter have stipulated a no chocolate rule, so I was looking at some alternative presents.

I had to look twice when I saw this chocolate crème egg necklace. You may have random kids trying to lick it though, I warn you… This is £7 by Blue Cherry Jewellery who also do very realistic nibbled chocolate mini egg earrings.

Will the sterling silver hungry bunny on this necklace ever reach the carrot I wonder? A bit more expensive at £59 but a unique design.

Hungry Bunny Necklace by Anne Morgan Contemporary Jewellery

Some of us in the UK will be doing Easter egg hunts in the snow this year and this sterling silver snow globe ring captures this perfectly. It’s also available with a brown bunny or deer inside at £75.

Or more spring-like with a patch of grass and no snow at £73.

Tiger Tiger

Not the ‘Tiger Tiger’ of drunk women on hen nights dancing with men in bad suits at a dimly lit bar.

More The Tiger of William Blake:

“Tiger, tiger, burning bright

In the forests of the night,

What immortal hand or eye

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?”

Tiger Tiger Necklace by Tilly Bloom

Tilly Bloom has dared to frame this tiger’s symmetry and done a beautiful job, her Tiger Tiger necklace is £18 and available from Culture Label.

With the join at the middle I can imagine them prowling gorgeously on the end of their silver plated chain.

These tigers reminds me of The Tiger Who Came To Tea, do you remember that book?

Picture Perfect Necklaces

Iluxo have used cameras as the inspiration for these cute necklaces, the tops slide off but instead of film inside they are hollow so you can use them as lockets to store a little photo or object. Made from unvarnished bamboo the designs have been etched and cut using a laser.

I’m really hankering after this Polaroid SX-70 inspired camera necklace.

This Leica M3 Camera Locket Necklace is so detailed.

Or maybe you prefer this Rolleiflex Camera Locket Necklace?

What would you put in it?
