Dorothy Shoes in Blue

I am a high heel type of girl, since I was fifteen and my mum caved in to my nagging I’ve worn them daily. I just can’t do flats, they make my heels feel all bruised and I trip over in them constantly. The width of my feet also mean that most of them cut in on the sides and squash my toes.

But a couple of weeks ago I found a special pair.

PLEASANTON D - Diamante Embellished Ballerina - Dune

They aren’t cheap at £99 but they have a proper sole with a tiny heel unlike most cheaper ballerina pumps, so my heels don’t feel bruised after walking around all day. The sides encompass quite a lot of foot so they don’t cut in on my big or little toe joints and they make my wide feet look a normal width.

And did I mention they’re sparkly, covered all over in diamantes? They are like Dorothy’s shoes but in blue. Dune have done very well with these and if they could make them a bit cheaper they would be perfect.

I am on my way to being converted to flats. Are you most comfortable in flats or heels?

My Skinny Love

I have a new skinny love.

Not skinny jeans, they’re pretty unflattering on me and inspire people to exclaim “Isn’t your bum getting fat!”. Not skinny lattes, the caffeine in them has me bouncing off the walls. But THESE skinny heels…

REIM Super Skinny Sandals - TopshopI love the bright clashing colours that will go with so many outfits.

I love the strappiness of them and as they’re 100% leather there should be a good amount of give in them so they won’t cut in to your toes.

I love the £45 price tag.

I love the super skinny heels on them. Let’s look at the back…

REIM Super Skinny Sandals - TopshopWell done Topshop!

I don’t love that I’ll have to wait for the rain to stop so I can wear them though. I trash shoes but I’d try my best not to trash these so my skinny love could last the year.

Are you a skinny or chunky heel type of girl?

Cardboard Chic

Cardboard is usually reserved for packing, carrying and storing. It is the workhorse of household materials that never really gets appreciated. Not these cardboard creations. They are the celebrities of the cardboard world that have been transformed from merely functional into beautiful as well.

This cardboard pendulum wall clock is stunning with its laser-cut curves and the brass hands and acrylic numbers add some extra class. It is $46 which is great value and even including the high postage outside of the US, it’s a lot less than many inferior clocks. As well as clocks Seequin also do some pretty cardboard chandeliers.

I love the simplicity of this cardboard radio from Suck UK. If you get bored with the radio playlists you can play your iPod or MP3 player through it too. It can be powered with batteries or a DC adaptor so you can take it out and about with you, eighties style. It’s £25.

Cardboard Radio - Suck UKNeed an ad hoc chair that you can fold away in between uses? Look no further than this cardboard chair from Paperpod Cardboard Creations. At just under £35 you could get a couple. I love the idea of decorating it, you could use it as a kind of furniture guest book and get a written message from everyone who sits on it. There are toddler versions too.

Mark O’Brien will do custom orders too so if you want a particular style of shoe in a certain brand box he may be your man. The ones below are just under £40.

The people over at Kid Eco, have some fun playhouses for kids made of cardboard that can be decorated and painted. Choose from a playhouse, puppet theatre, teepee, rocket, castles, fortress, princess castles or my favourite, the igloo.

What do you think? Has cardboard got a little jumped up or is it the new eco chic?
